Colette Dishman
[LibArts] consults for a startup law firm in Dallas. She and her husband, John, have recently been challenged with the unexpected loss of both their sons Mitchell Dishman [BusAdm ’01] and Micah Dishman, who passed away May 14, 2017, and April 9, 2017, respectively.

Miguel Gasca
[SciEng] has been elected to serve as the newest member of the Rainbow Municipal Water District Board, headquartered in Fallbrook, California.

Carlyn Montes De Oca
[CFA], who spent 20 years as a film editor, is the author of “Dog as My Doctor, Cat as My Nurse.” The book won a 2017 International Book Award, an awards program sponsored by American Book Fest.

John Stankey
[BusAdm] will oversee Time Warner’s media business after AT&T’s acquisition of the company is complete, which is expected by the end of 2017. He will have oversight of HBO, Warner Bros. and CNN. Stankey has been CEO of AT&T Entertainment Group.

Matthew Challis
[LibArts] recently joined Dallas-based Preston Hollow Capital in May 2017. He will be executive director of the firm’s fixed income team.

Kelly (Baldwin) Linden
[GradBusAdm] began work in May 2017 as CEO of Providence Saint Joseph Medical Center in Burbank, California. She had been executive vice president and chief operating officer at St. Mary Medical Center in Apple Valley, California, prior to taking her new post.

Shannon Ryan
[CFA] was named chief marketing officer at Fox Television Group in June 2017. She manages all marketing and publicity areas for Fox, Twentieth Century Fox Television and Fox 21 Television Studios.

Kristen Tracy
[BCLA] won the 2017 Emily Dickinson First Book Award this past May from The Poetry Foundation for her manuscript “Half-Hazard.” The book will be published by Graywolf Press in 2018. The Poetry Foundation, an independent literary organization, is based in Chicago.

Christine Giunta-Mayer
[CFA] coaches the boys’ volleyball team at Glenbard West High School in the Chicago area and has won three Illinois state titles in a row.

Gian Sardar [LibArts] published an essay titled “In My Father’s Iraq, His Garden Was a Sanctuary” at salon.com in May 2017. She is also the co-author of “Psychic Junkie” and author of “You Were Here,” her debut novel.

Catrina Archuleta
[LibArts, Law ’00] married Charlie Silva on Aug. 5, 2017, in Paso Robles, California. Catrina works as a deputy city attorney for the City of Los Angeles and Judge Pro Tem for Los Angeles Superior Court.

Tyneia Merrit
[LibArts], a managing partner at Marinosci Law Group of California, joined the Board of the Council for Inclusion in Financial Services in May 2017.

Zelda Beckford
[LibArts] earned a master’s degree in business administration from Webster University in St. Louis. She published her first article, “Safe and Secure: A Look Into Artificial Intelligence Technology,” in Security Today in June 2017. 

Caspian was born to Blair Kroeber [CFA] and his wife, Margaret, on June 30, 2017.

Ryan Julio
[CFA] is one of the owners of ETA, a small cocktail bar in the Highland Park neighborhood of Los Angeles that features jazz music. He was an opera major at LMU and later sang in a rock band before getting into the restaurant business.

Sarah Romanowsky [CFA] is an aerial artist, teacher and performer who has been featured on Nickelodeon’s “Kids Choice Awards” and Disney’s “Shake It Up.”

Daniel Williams [BusAdm] was appointed industrial managing director of Newmark Knight Frank, a commercial real estate company with offices across the United States, in May 2017. He works in the firm’s El Segundo, California, office.

Cecilia was born to Christine Alcantar Moore [LibArts, GradLibArts ’10, GradEd ’13] and her husband, Jerry, on May 7, 2017. Christine is in her fifth year of teaching English at Loyola High School in Los Angeles.

Emma Katherine was born to William C. Sisk [LibArts, GradEd ’08] and Leanna Hedger [LibArts ’12] on June 20, 2017.

Stephanie Gleason
[LibArts] was hired in May 2017 by TheStreet.com to report on bankruptcy and distressed companies. She previously covered those topics as a reporter for The Wall Street Journal and Capital News Service. 

Rocco was born on May 6, 2017, in Phoenix, to Sebastien [LibArts] and Dominique (Bommarito) Reyes [BusAdmin ’09].

Tessa Marie was born to Laura (Dzida) Lyons [LibArts] and her husband, Dave, on May 11, 2017. Given her last name and her Dzida blood, Tessa, her mother says, is destined to be a Lion!

Brittany Reeser [SciEng] was named one of four outstanding high school teachers to receive the Williams College annual George Omsted Jr. Class of 1924 Prize for Excellence in Secondary School Teaching award in May 2017. Brittany is a math teacher and the director of mathematics at STEM Preparatory Schools in Los Angeles.

Aymara Ledezma
[LibArts, Law ’15] joined Fisher Phillips, a national labor and employment law firm representing employers in July 2017. She is an associate in the firm’s Los Angeles office.

2012
James Spellman
[GradEd] began his job as principal of St. Monica High School in Santa Monica, California, this past August. He was assistant principal of Immaculate Heart High School and Middle School in Los Angeles from 2011–17.

Jason Wheeler [BusAdm] made his Major League Baseball debut for the Minnesota Twins on Tuesday, May 30, 2017. Wheeler played for the St. Cloud River Bats in 2010 and was drafted by the Minnesota Twins in the eighth round of the 2011 MLB Draft.

Kelly Gonez
[GradEd], who was an education policy advisor in the administration of former President Barack Obama, is now a member of the Los Angeles Unified School District Board of Education, representing District 6. She was elected in May 2017.

Sahar Mansoor [LibArts], a resident of Bengluru, India, has started Bare Necessities, a company that makes organic bath salts, laundry detergents, cleaning liquids, body scrubs, shampoos, toothpaste, facial cleansers and lip balms.

Kenya Kinski-Jones
[LibArts], a full-time model for photographer Bruce Weber, made her runway debut at the Chanel Pre-Fall show in December 2016. She has modeled for him in a Vogue Spain spread and appeared in Calvin Klein campaigns and Stella McCartney’s Pop Fragrance work.

Tyler Clinton
[CFA] signed on with IMG Modeling Agency in April 2017.

Shay Hatten [SFTV] is working as a writer’s assistant for Robert Downey Jr.’s production company Team Downey. He provides script notes and coverage on the company’s projects. His spec script for “Ballerina,” a female-centric action script, was picked up by Lionsgate in July 2017.

2017
Alex Napior
[LibArts, SciEng], a double major in biology and Spanish, began a year in El Salvador as a Fulbright Scholar after receiving a study/research award this past June. He is studying biodiversity along the Acelhuate River, which runs through the capital of San Salvador and empties into Suchitlán Lake.

Jeremy Selland [LibArts] was named the recipient of the Peter Tomassi Award, which is given to the best paper published in each edition of Columbia University’s Journal of Politics and Society. His paper is titled “Efficacy of Targeted Killings in Pakistan; Drones, Blowback, and Effects on the State.” Selland received his award days before his graduation this past May. He was an intern with the Global Policy Institute and also studied at the London School of Economics while serving as an intern in the House of Commons. In 2014, he was awarded a Boren Scholarship by the National Security Education Program in Alexandria, Virginia.
