A commitment to service has long characterized LMU students, who contribute as many as 46,000 hours of service annually to local organizations. That devotion to the community doesn’t end with graduation. For more than 20 years, members of the LMU community have hosted and volunteered in service projects with the LMU Office of Alumni and Family Engagement.
LMU’s Alumni Day of Service, held April 11, 2026, not only took place across the Southern California region but around the United States, as well. Alumni and friends, numbering about 180 people, gathered in Los Angeles, Santa Monica, Orange Co., and San Diego. Other groups met in Honolulu, Denver, Dallas, D.C., and New York.
In Long Beach, LMU Loyola Law School alumni helped with meal service, food preparation, and clean-up at the Long Beach Rescue Mission. In L.A.’s Boyle Heights neighborhood, alumni at Dolores Mission Catholic Church painted the church’s iron fence and did maintenance work in the garden. In San Francisco, volunteers organized a clothing and hygiene kits donation drive for survivors of sexual exploitation and trafficking.
“With everything going on in the world,” said Cathy Collette ’03, who helped at the L.A. Regional Food Bank, “knowing we could come together and make a tangible difference for those facing food insecurity in our own city is exactly what LMU’s commitment to community is all about.”
