This past spring, they concluded their 2011 season with a No. 13 ranking from Rugby Magazine. They placed second in the Southern California Conference, behind UCSB, and they enjoyed a lop-sided 61-7 win over USC. Senior Zach Fenoglio, team captain, capped his career with a selection by USA Rugby as a 2011 Men’s Collegiate All-American, the second time he’s achieved the honor.
On campus, the team took the 2011 Sport Club of the Year Award, which recognizes athletic performance, community service, campus involvement and other qualities. The distinction followed an award they won the previous year: In 2010, they earned Student Organization of the Year Honors. Rugby is not yet an NCAA sport, but one look at this slideshow will convince you that the game is not lacking for talent, courage, competitiveness and tradition.
