Peace and Protest

Trevor Jackson ’23 shot powerful, on-the-scene photos in 2020 of the L.A.-based protests of the death of George Floyd at the hands of police. His images also have appeared in venues including KCET, PBS NewsHour, and the Los Angeles Times. With the help of funds from the George A.V. Dunning Foundation, Jackson’s work has received support from the LMU College of Communication and Fine Arts

In 2020, CFA Dean Bryant Keith Alexander designated $1 million from the George A.V. Dunning Foundation funds to support a range of BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, People of Color) initiatives, such as support for faculty research and visiting artists. One of those was the purchase of several of Jackson’s images, which now hang in the CFA Academic Advisement Center for Student Success

“These images stand as a testament to tenacity, resilience, and the power of the people,” Jackson says.

“These pictures, which are part of a collection titled ‘Peace and Protest,’ highlight the emotionally unpolished reality of the movement,” Jackson says. “My aim was to capture the energy of this historic moment in order to display its unprecedented caliber of social justice. These images stand as a testament to tenacity, resilience, and the power of the people.”
