Clinton to Graduates: “Set the World on Fire”
Bill Clinton, 42nd president of the United States, focused his commencement address on the words of St. Ignatius and the motto of the class of 2016: “Go forth and set the world on fire.” He urged the Class of 2016 to expand the definition of “us” while shrinking the definition of “them.” As annual events that are laced with ritual, university graduation ceremonies are reassuringly and perhaps maddeningly similar. This year’s 104th commencement exercises, however, were like none before.
